Karla Moya-Crites

Karla Moya-Crites was born in Santa Fe, New Mexico. She is a multigenerational Santa Fean. She currently is a family nurse practitioner at Unity Medical Clinic. Karla graduated nursing school in 1992 from Santa Fe Community College and pursued her undergraduate degree at the University of New Mexico. She completed her Master’s of Science in nursing from Walden University and is a certified family nurse practitioner. During her time as a nurse, she dedicated several years working with HIV patients at The AIDS Wellness clinic and was accepted to an intensive HIV/AIDS program at the University of Southern California for 1 year. She also worked at La Familia Medical Clinic where she ran the OB program and created a multisite for pregnant teenagers to be able to complete their GED and have childhood assistance after giving birth.

Karla and her husband became foster parents from CYFD. They fostered many children who were either abused or living in an abusive environment. She was hired as the Foster Parent Liaison for CYFD and organized The March Against Child Abuse Rally. She also worked also with the legislature to try to modify child abuse laws. The Crites were named Top Foster Parents of the Year by cabinet secretary, Yolanda Deines.  As a nurse practitioner, Karla has been working with people with addiction and has seen many patients wanting to get away from drugs. Karla is currently a member of the VFW.
